Structure your environment to avoid situations likely to trigger unwanted anxiety, guilt, sadness, or other emotions; described as the earliest and often most successful emotion-regulation strategy.

And so in the first place, don't get yourself into a situation where you're going to be anxious or guilty or sad or whatever emotion you want to avoid. So situational avoidance, just in terms of structuring your environment, would be one strategy.
